About

Welcome to Mirrorbee.com!

I’ve always had a thing for bees – their complex little societies, how they live in hives, build combs, and turn floral adventures into liquid gold. I love beeswax candles, and of course the honey. Everything about them makes me smile – especially the Bumbles!

As a kid, I would watch them for hours in our backyard buzzing around from flower to flower collecting pollen. I wondered what adventures they were off to and wished that I could fly and taste flowers too!

Many years ago a friend of mine gave me a beautiful pair of 9″ beeswax taper candles as a gift. Made by a local beekeeper, they were light-gold in color and smelled divine. Because candle making was – and still is – a hobby of mine I had to try some bees wax in my own creations. Eventually I got the chance to purchase several pounds of fireweed beeswax with the same color (from a different  beekeeper) and I jumped on it. It smelled very floral and when I bit into it, it even tasted like flowers.

It wasn’t until after I’d made a few candles that it dawned on me to actually try some of the honey! The next time I went to my beekeeper for beeswax I tasted the honey from his hives. It tasted just like the wax smelled and was so delicious that I bought an entire case – twelve 16oz jars.  However, I gave away the majority of them spreading the love and shortly afterwards my beekeeper went out of business – noooo! Fortunately I’ve since found other beekeepers that sell the honey – whew.

Amazingly, I still have a large quantity of the original wax. A wonderful thing about beeswax is that it has a long shelf life. Even today, whenever I craft a small batch of votives or lip balm from the same wax that I’ve had for over 20 years, the fragrance is remarkably strong and continues to make me swoon every time I smell it.

Anyway, I’ve always wanted to share my little obsession with others, so back in the late 1980’s I came up with the name Mirrorbee® for my business and started selling handcrafted bee related items and beeswax candles. In the ‘90s I tried my hand at building a website but didn’t get too far. Does anyone remember the early version of “FrontPage”? – yikes.

With today’s technology I’ve finally been able to create this little website for your enjoyment. I’ve included some history, symbolism, and information about bees, as well as DIY projects, honey reviews, recipes, and other fun stuff.

Also inside, you’ll find links to unique bee finds that myself and other folks have created out of a love for bees – loads of happy items to enhance your own hive and garden.
