About
Welcome to Mirrorbee’s!
I’ve always had a thing for bees – their complex little societies, how they live in hives, build combs, and turn floral adventures into liquid gold.
I love beeswax candles, and of course the honey. Everything about them makes me smile – especially the Bumbles!
As a kid, I’d watch them for hours in our backyard buzzing from flower to flower collecting pollen. I wondered what adventures they were off to wishing that I could fly around and taste flowers too!
Many years ago, a friend of mine gave me a beautiful pair of 9″ beeswax taper candles as a gift. They were made by a local beekeeper and light-gold in color. They smelled divine!
Because candle-making is a hobby of mine, I had to try to make some of those incredibly fragrant bees wax candles as well.
Eventually I got the chance to purchase several pounds of fireweed beeswax and I jumped on it. It smelled very floral and when I bit into the wax – it even tasted like flowers.
It wasn’t until after I’d made a few candles that it dawned on me to actually try some of the honey!
The next time I went to my beekeeper for more beeswax, I tasted the honey from his hives. The flavor was just like the fragrance of the wax. It was so delicious that I bought an entire case – twelve 16oz jars.
However, I gave away the majority of them (spreading the love) and shortly afterwards my beekeeper went out of business – noooo! Fortunately I’ve since found other beekeepers that sell the honey – whew.
Amazingly 25 years later, I still have a large quantity of the original wax. A wonderful thing about beeswax is that it has a long shelf life.
Even today, whenever I craft a batch of votives or lip balm (from the same wax that I’ve had for over 20 years) the fragrance is remarkably strong and continues to make me swoon every time I smell it.
Anyway, I’ve always wanted to share my little obsession with others, so back in the late 1980’s I came up with the name Mirrorbee® for my business and started selling handcrafted bee related items and beeswax candles.
In the ‘90s I tried my hand at building a website but didn’t get too far. Does anyone remember the early version of “FrontPage”? – yikes.
With today’s technology I’ve finally been able to create this little website for your enjoyment. I’ve included some history, symbolism, and information about bees, as well as DIY projects, honey reviews, recipes, and other fun stuff.
Also inside, you’ll find links to unique bee finds that myself and other folks have created out of a love for bees – loads of happy items to enhance your own hive and garden.
Thanks for stopping by. If you have any comments, questions or suggestions please feel free to contact me, I’d love to hear from you!
Stay Sweet,
